Para bidan ada di barisan terdepan yang bertanggung jawab terhadap kesehatan ibu hamil dan bayi yang dilahirkan. Tak hanya di perkotaan, tetapi juga di berbagai pelosok kota. Sayangnya, profesi ini kerap terlupakan dengan popularitas dokter kandungan. Padahal, keduanya adalah tenaga medis yang terlatih, meski memang terdapat sejumlah perbedaan. Faktanya, ada beberapa tugas dokter kandungan yang bisa dilakukan oleh bidan. Apa saja?
Menurut dr. Fiona Amelia, MPH, dari KlikDokter, salah satu perbedaan bidan dan dokter kandungan terletak pada masa studi pendidikannya. Profesi bidan dengan gelar Ahli Madya (A.Md.Keb) bisa diperoleh melalui pendidikan vokasi atau diploma III hanya dengan 3-4 tahun masa studi. Bedanya dengan gelar dokter spesialis kebidanan dan kandungan, masa studinya tiga kali lebih panjang daripada bidan.
“Demi mencapai gelar ahli kebidanan dan kandungan (SpOG), seseorang harus mendapatkan gelar dokter umum (dr.) terlebih dulu dengan waktu 5,5-6,5 tahun. Setelahnya, ia harus mengambil program spesialis kandungan dan kebidanan selama kurang lebih 4,5 tahun. Totalnya, masa studi dokter spesialis kandungan adalah sekitar 10-11 tahun,” jelas dr. Fiona.
Tugas dokter kandungan yang bisa dilakukan bidan
Dengan masa studi yang lebih panjang otomatis calon dokter kandungan dituntut untuk mempelajari banyak materi mengenai kehamilan dan persalinan, serta semua hal yang berhubungan dengan itu. Meski demikian, ternyata ada beberapa tugas dokter kandungan yang bisa dilakukan bidan. Berikut beberapa di antaranya:
1. Membantu persalinan normal
Kurikulum pendidikan bidan menekankan pada proses kehamilan dan persalinan yang bersifat alami. Oleh sebab itu, bidan memiliki wewenang untuk membantu persalinan normal, tidak berisiko, dan tidak ada faktor penyulit.
Keberadaan bidan sendiri sebenarnya membuat beban kerja dokter kandungan sedikit berkurang, sehingga mereka lebih bisa memprioritaskan persalinan pada ibu hamil berisiko tinggi atau yang mengalami komplikasi.
“Jadi, selama kehamilan sehat dan tidak ada hal-hal yang menghambat proses persalinan normal, maka Anda bisa melahirkan dengan bantuan bidan,” tutur dr. Fiona.
2. Mengedukasi tentang kehamilan, kelahiran, dan perawatan bayi
Secara umum, tugas seorang bidan adalah membantu para ibu sejak masa kehamilan hingga melahirkan. Berbekal ilmu pengetahuannya semasa studi dan pengalamannya hadir di tengah masyarakat, bidan dapat memberikan pengetahuan yang cukup terkait kehamilan, kelahiran, sekaligus perawatan bayi.
Jika ada pertanyaan seputar hal tersebut tetapi enggan pergi ke rumah sakit dan membuat janji atau antre cukup lama, tak perlu sungkan untuk berkonsultasi dengan bidan yang praktik di dekat tinggal Anda.
3. Menyediakan layanan konsultasi perencanaan keluarga dan kehamilan
Anda yang baru saja menikah dan ingin merancang program kehamilan yang sesuai dengan kondisi Anda dan pasangan, bisa juga mengonsultasikannya kepada bidan.
Bidan akan memberikan saran terkait obat-obatan, makanan, serta aktivitas yang dapat melancarkan program hamil. Bahkan, ibu hamil akan dibantu dalam merencanakan kelahiran. Jika di tengah jalan ternyata ada kondisi kesehatan tertentu yang mengharuskan ibu hamil dirujuk ke dokter kandungan, bidan pun akan melakukannya demi kebaikan Anda.
4. Melakukan pemeriksaan selama masa kehamilan, baik fisik maupun psikis
Memeriksakan kondisi fisik dan psikis ibu hamil beserta perkembangan janinnya tak cuma bisa dilakukan oleh dokter kandungan, tetapi bisa juga oleh bidan.
